Heck of the North Recap by Paulie Glatt

This year’s running of the Heck of the North took place on October 3rd, spanning 107 miles through the back country of northern Minnesota. Although the majority of the 200+ riders appeared to be from the Duluth/Two Harbors area, three Sh!tgoose riders, Ed Hahn, Andy Lageson, and Paulie Glatt, made the trip up to do battle with the gravel roads, bouldered ATV paths, and rugged state trails of the north woods. The race started at a nippy 34 degrees, but the sun kept us warm throughout the day with no clouds or precipitation in its way, topping out around 55 degrees for a day of great riding weather. The race was well organized and laid out with flowing transitions between gravel sections and brutal state trails. The gravel ranged from hero to straight up rocky with the sun and shadows playing tricks on our vision, exposing massive stones at the last second. The state trails were grass covered paths with hidden boulders and occasional mud baths of unknown depths, waiting to swallow up your front tire. Throw in over 3000 feet of climbing on every type of terrain imaginable, as well as an un-rideable river crossing to soak your socks, and you’ve got the 2015 Heck of the North. Despite two flats, Andy still managed to crush most of the competition in just over 7 hours while Ed and Paulie finished neck and neck at around 7:45. Overall, big ups to founder and Heck organizer, Jeremy Kershaw, who had coffee and a campfire at the starting line, as well as raffle prizes and a cheering section at the finish. We managed to start and finish the road trip at race sponsor Castle Danger in Two Harbors with some delicious beers, Sh!tgoose-style. See you next year, hopefully with an even bigger flock!

Sh!tgoose Takes Podium Spots at Babes in Bikeland 8

Congrats to Jana Velo and Robbie Jensen for throwing down at Babes in Bikeland 8 over the weekend.  Jana came in 2nd place (pictured above on left), missing 1st place by about 20 seconds to Lee Penn (shown above on the right).  Robbie came in 3rd place a few minutes after Jana.  Congrats on the race and keep on crushing it.  Thanks Kat for organizing with the wonderful crew of women that made this event happen.  This is truly one of my favorite bike events of the year
